At NBC’s annual “infront” with advertisers, they have confirmed the renewal of Heroes for a fourth season and given a pickup to new series D ay One. NBC had previously announced their intentions to bring Heroes back despite its declining ratings in Season 3, though they plan on cutting back the episode order to between 18 and 20. The pickup of apocalyptic series Day One was also expected, though they have announced it as a mid-season replacement entry. Originally, the network hinted that one might occupy Heroes‘ Monday night time slot early in the season, with the veteran series returning later in the season, a la Lost and 24. As we mentioned earlier today, Medium is still expected to get a renewal with an episode order between 13 and 18, and Chuck is also expected to get the nod for another round of episodes, though that announcement will not come till later. There has been no mention of Knight Rider from the news coming out of the “infronts”, but it almost certainly will not return for a second season.

Following is the official description of new series Day One:

From executive producer/writer Jesse Alexander (“Heroes,” “Lost,” “Alias”) and director Alex Graves (“Fringe,” “Journeyman”), “Day One” tells the story of life on earth following a global catastrophe that has devastated the world’s infrastructures. Beginning with the immediate aftermath of the cataclysmic event, an eclectic band of survivors — played by Adam Campbell (“Date Movie”), Catherine Dent (“The Shield”), Julie Gonzalo (“Eli Stone”), David Lyons (“ER”), Derek Mio (“Greek”), Carly Pope (“24″), Thekla Reuten (“Sleeper Cell”) and Addison Timlin (“Cashmere Mafia”) — strives to rebuild society as they unravel the mysteries of what happened and face their uncertain future. The group, all residents of one apartment building in suburban Van Nuys, Calif., embarks on a quest for survival and discovers that hope is found in small victories — and heroes are born every day. “Day One” is a Universal Media Studios production.
